First Time at the Course: What to wear
Etiquette and dress code at the golf course.

Golf is unique in that it blends casual recreation with long-standing traditions. Most golf courses—especially private or semi-private ones—have dress codes in place. These aren’t just about appearance; they also reflect the etiquette and respect the sport is built on. While some public courses are more relaxed, dressing appropriately helps you feel more comfortable and confident, and ensures you’re always course-ready.
Looking for Tops
The most common expectation for tops is a collared shirt or a conservative performance top. Examples of this are sleeveless polos with structured collars, Short-sleeved golf shirts, Quarter-zip performance pullovers, and Mock neck athletic tops. Materials should be lightweight, breathable, and moisture-wicking. Avoid overly revealing tops, crop tops, spaghetti straps, and anything made from cotton t-shirts, which can get heavy and uncomfortable in warm weather.

Perfect Pants
Women have a lot of flexibility when it comes to golf bottoms, but they should always be modest, functional, and tailored. Examples include Golf skorts (skirts with built-in shorts), Bermuda shorts (knee-length or just above), Cropped pants or capris, Full-length golf trousers, and some courses allow Leggings. Avoid denim, very short shorts, and overly tight or sheer leggings at more formal clubs. The goal is mobility with a touch of polish. Gaining popularity are golf-specific dresses. Again, staying on the modest side.

Footwear
Footwear isn’t just about fashion—it impacts your swing, balance, and comfort. Soft-spiked golf shoes have great traction and support. However, spikeless golf shoes are more versatile and wearable off the course. For beginners, sporty sneakers are also acceptable.
